Thirty Ideas in Thirty Minutes

 

1.       Luncheon graduation for class members with spouse and employer invited.

2.       Partner youth leadership group with young professionals group

3.       Have a picnic with steering committee, alumni and sponsors to network

4.       Opening overnight retreat which helps class members get out of their comfort zone

5.       Mid course oral evaluation with moderator to understand how to better the program

6.       Community meaning making homework between sessions

7.       Rejuvenate topics to make more current and relevant

8.       Have a “time to shine” so classmates can tell about their lives for 3-5 minutes- helps to learn about the class

9.       Amazing Race photo scavenger hunt across Des Moines

10.    Partner with Wartburg and complete a poverty simulation

11.    Bus tour through communities

12.    During legislative session, take a bus tour to the capitol, inviting state legislators to join. Debate on the floor.

13.    Graduation invitations extended to spouse and employer

14.    Community bus tour around the county to learn about the other smaller communities

15.    Team building at the Marshalltown Challenge course

16.    Traveling in college van together to all sessions, helps with bonding

17.    During one of the dinners, the class invited the people who nominated them

23.    Send handwritten thank you notes to speakers, sponsors, planners, etc. written by a class member and signed by everyone in the class

24.    Thank you’s sent to employer after graduation tahnkhing them for allowing their employee to take the time to participate

25.    “Class class”- the class forms a committee to plan a class. Helps the class understand the amount of work it takes to plan a session

27.    Class project. Example: building a playground at Blank Park Zoo

28.    Speakers or experts in the topic field give the class an idea on how to get more involved or gain more information if very interested in the topic.

29.    Track speakers via surveys

30.    Word or take away of the day at the end of the session, helping to recap sessions quickly
