Leadership Iowa definitely played a role in my decision to seek statewide elective office. While my professional experiences prepared me well for the duties of Auditor of State, it was my Leadership Iowa experience that sparked my interest and fueled my decision to get involved in public service. Based upon my first term as Iowa’s State Auditor, I can tell you, each and every elected official can make a difference.

I participated in Leadership Iowa to meet other Iowans, learn about Iowa's political and public policy structures, and to see Iowa communities.

My favorite activities were the evening discussions about issues facing Iowa with people from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives. I continue to use my classmates as sounding boards for issues facing our State and my company.

What surprised me the most was the incredible passion that my fellow classmates have for the state of Iowa and making it a great place to learn, live and grow. One of the great things about Iowa is our passion for helping others.
